Snakes In Movies List

(See an illustrated version of this list.)

This is not meant to be a list of every movie with a snake in it, just some of those I know about.
When I watch or learn of a new one, I'll add it to the list. If you know of one I should add, let me know.

Blue links lead to pictures and information about the movies and the snake scenes.

None of the brief descriptions below should give away important plot information you won't want to know before watching a movie,
but when you click on a movie name, you will go to a page with pictures and information that might contain SPOILERS, so beware if you are spoilerphobic.

Most of these are live-action feature films or tv movies that use real, artificial, or special effect snakes (CGI, VFX, etc.)
I'm not going to try to list TV episodes, commercials, animated films, or nature documentaries.

The intent here is to have fun documenting some of the many ridiculous misrepresentations of snakes in movies, along with some of the times when they got it right. (Seriously, if they're so often wrong about snakes, can we believe anything we see in movies?)

Snakes are the most commonly-used reptile in movies, because many people are afraid of them and because, since there are snakes that are capable of killing people and the audience is already predisposed to believe that all snakes are dangerous a snake can be used as a convenient (and cheap) evil adversary or obstacle for a character to overcome. Snakes can add tension and a little extra drama, like a gun, a car chase, or a sexual situation, but I often get the feeling that they are added unrealistically just for the convenience of the plot. (Some Westerns seem to think they have to show a rattlesnake somewhere just to prove they're a Western.)
