Kingsnakes and Tricolor Snakes in Movies

These are movies with real or fake Kingsnakes of the genus Lampropeltis, including Milk Snakes.

Many Kingsnakes and Milk Snakes are tricolor - with three colored bands circling the body, most often black, white or yellow, and red or orange. I'm also including other banded tricolor snakes here, such as Coral Snakes. Since so many snakes in movies are now CGI animations, those made to look like Kingsnakes or tricolor snakes will also be shown here. Because Milk Snakes are harmless but colorful and look similar to Coral Snakes, they are often used to portray dangerously venomous snakes, since there is no problem having the actors handle them on set.

A snake gets in the pool and then somebody fills a house with snakes to terrorize a family. One of the snakes is the "blairi" color morph Gray-banded Kingsnake, aka an alterna, and another is a Milk Snake.

The Craft (1996)

Snakes appear throughout this movie about four high school witches, including thousands of snakes that are conjured to torment one of the girls. We also see a man on the street holding a form of Kingsnake.

Death Curse of Tartu (1966)

We see a Seminole man pick up a Florida Kingsnake from the ground, an uncommon snake in the real world and even more rare in the movies.

The Gauntlet (1977)

A woman in a motorcycle gang rides around with a California Kingsnake.

Happy Gilmore 2 (2025)

When hitting the ball in a golf tournament, Happy accidentally launches a snake into the air and it lands on a rival golfer. The snake is made to look like Milk Snake or a Scarlet Snake.

Jungle Cruise (2021)

An ancient Spanish explorer is bitten by a venomous Coral Snake then cursed to be made out of snakes.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)

A paleontologist hiding from a T-Rex is terrified to find a harmless Milk Snake crawling down his shirt, so he runs right into the dinosaur's mouth.

The Mummy Returns (2001)

A man and woman are exploring an ancient Egyptian temple when she hears hissing sounds and looks down to see a Milk Snake on the sandy floor. She tells it to go away and kicks it right into the man who has just come into the room. He tells her "those are poisonous, you know" and she replies "only if they bite you."

One Million B.C. (1940)

A cave man and cave woman encounter a California Kingsnake in a jungle, then a Coatimundi grabs the snake in its mouth, pulls it off the tree, and starts to eat it.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010)

Medusa has a head full of brown, white and black tricolor snakes, that may have been based on Eastern Milk Snakes.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)

A fear of a harmless Milk Snake causes a bunch of men to fall to their deaths.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)

Blackbeard's daughter picks up a venomous snake and holds it in Jack Sparrow's face, but leaves him unharmed. The snake is CGI, so it should have looked like a Coral Snake, but instead, it's a fake Milk Snake.

Sahara (2017)

A teenaged cobra, his scorpion best friend, and a stoner teen snake take a road trip across the Sahara desert to rescue a teen girl snake held captive by an evil snake charmer. Some of the snake charmer's snakes are animated tricolor snakes.

Savage Sam (1963)

A Desert Kingsnake is spotted crawling on the ground near a snapping turtle is interpreted to mean that a rain storm is on the way, shortly before it starts pouring rain.

Shadow of the Hawk (1976)

The ghost of a Native American shaman dances around with a supposedly deadly snake (which is really a harmless Milk Snake) then uses her magic to send it to another shaman to bite him.

Silent Venom (Sea Snakes) (2009)

A bunch of extra-deadly mutated snakes are brought onto a submarine.
A lot of harmless pet snakes are used, including corn snakes, albino corn snakes, milk snakes, albino milk snakes, pythons, king snakes, and indigo snakes.

Snakes (aka Fangs) (1974)

An old snake collector kills off his enemies with venomous snakes. We also see a woman cuddle a California Kingsnake and other snakes.

Snakes on a Plane (2006)

A bunch of deadly snakes get loose on a plane, including real and fake tricolor snakes, such as this Milk Snake in a Microwave.

Snakes on a Train (2006)

A bunch of deadly snakes get loose on a train. Most are portrayed by harmless pythons, but we also see some unusual CGI tricolor snakes.

Turbo Kid (2015)

Turbo Kid finds a Milk Snake crawling through the skull of a dead man.

Venom (2011)

A woman runs over a female snake then the snake's mate bites her and chases her through the desert enraged by the death of its mate. One of the snakes we see is a California Kingsnake.

We Bought a Zoo (2011)

Scarlet Johansson shows off her snake-handling skills after some newly-arrived zoo snakes escape their shipping box then just sit around all night waiting to be captured the next morning. Several species of snakes are used, including some fairly common movies like ball pythons, corn snakes, gopher snakes, garter snakes, and milk snakes, and maybe a boa constrictor, but there are also some less common snakes including albinos. albino snakes of some species I can't ID.

The Witches of Eastwick (1987)

A woman tells the devil of her fear of snakes and later he fills her bed with snakes to torment her.
We also see a bowl of rotting fruit with a "blairi" color morph Gray-banded Kingsnake or "alterna.'

Witch Hunt (1994)

In a world where magic is widely and openly used in daily events, snakes are sometimes conjured up, including a Milk Snake on a mannequin.
