Salamanders In Movies

This is an alphabetical list of the few movies I've seen that had salamanders in them.

I've watched thousands of movies based on fiction and I've hardly ever seen salamanders in them. There are plenty of non-fiction and YouTube movies with them. When a salamander does show up in a work of fiction, they are seen only briefly, so nearly everything on this list is extremely trivial. I've even included one from the opening credits of a TV series, just to pad the list. I've never seen a movie with a salamander scene that is essential to the plot. That's understandable since salamanders, although common or abundant in many areas, are secretive and rarely seen. They are typically ignored, misunderstood, or thought to be some kind of lizard instead of a salamander. Even the fiction movies I've seen with the word salamander in the title often have nothing to do with salamanders. I wish there was a movie about a gigantic monster salamander or an invasion of mutant salamanders that escape from a lab and terrorize a town, but wishes ain't fishes... or horses... or even salamanders. If you know of any movies with salamanders in them that I'm missing here, let me know.

The Hellbenders (The Cruel Ones) (1967)

A Confederate regiment called The Hellbenders uses Hellbender insignia and symbols.

House (1977)

A newt is impaled by a crystal that falls from a chandelier in a haunted house.

Jules and Jim (1962)

Jules is a naturalist who keeps newts in a wash basin in his house in France. We never find out why, but he might be drawing them.

Leolo (1993)

Leolo keeps Eastern Newts as pets in jars in his basement.

Mandy (2018)

A man determined to revenge his murdered wife has a dream about her then wakes up to see a salamander on a rock.

Pretty Poison (1968)

A man sleeping in the woods is terrified when he wakes up and sees a newt on a branch above him.

The Salamander (1981)

The mysterious character called the "Salamander" leaves a picture of a salamander with his victims because salamanders represent justice and can survive fire, but even that can't make salamanders cool.

Spirited Away (2001)

A girl is bribed with a roasted newt to do something dangerous.

Tales of Terror (1962)

A drunk hallucinates a bunch of creatures blocking his cellar stairs, including an Amphiuma.

The Torture Chamber of Dr. Sadism (Die Schlangengrube und das Pendel) (1967)

A woman is tortured with spiders, scorpions, snakes, and - a newt?

The Tree of Life (2011)

A neotenic salamander shows up in an underwater scene for an instant.

A Trip to the Moon ("Le voyage dans la lune") (1902)

A neotenic salamander seen underwater begins the opening credits montage.

Witch Hunt (1994)

A witch spits a salamander out of his mouth onto a Senator, who then spits out a huge frog and shows the his true character to the audience he is giving a speech to.
