All of the images, sound recordings, and videos used on this site are protected by copyright, but most of them can be shared for free for independant non-commercial educational use.

Using Images, Sounds, or Videos with No Credit, or Credited to Photographers Other than Gary Nafis

(The name of the contributor is printed underneath the item and/or on the picture itself.)

Many users of this site have generously contributed their images, sounds, and video to this web site for free. Please be aware that they maintain all rights to the use of their digital media and that they all have their own guidelines for how they can be used. You need to contact the contributor to get their permission to use their work. If there is no link, you can check with me to see if the contributor does not want to be contacted, or if I just did not make a link.

Please don't contact me to ask permission to use their work. I can't give it to you.

Below is a list of these contributors with links to their email address.

If you do not find the email address below, if you find a name without an email link, or if you write to an address listed here and you do not get a response from the contributor, please do not use their work. If you try the address listed here and find that it is invalid or if you get no response then I doubt I be able to help you because I probably don't have any other address for them. Many of the images are old and photographers rarely notify me of their email address changes.

Commercial image use sales are the main source of income that this web site generates to help keep it in operation and commercial-free.

Please contact me to discuss using any images © Gary Nafis for commercial purposes. For a low price I can provide you with a digital image of higher resolution than you can download from the web site. I will help you choose an image if necessary, and I will sign and return usage rights documents and anything else you need.

Free Use

Free use of my images is limited to images that you can download directly from the web site.

I will not send high-resolution files, help you choose photos, sign documents, or do anything more than give you permission by email unless you purchase the use of an image.

Everything on this web site is already available for free to everyone around the world with access to the internet. You are welcome to make a link to any of my web pages or images. But if you feel you absolutely need to take one of my images to use on your not for profit web site or publication, you can do so under the following conditions:

In the interest of advancing public awareness and appreciation of reptiles and amphibians and to encourage their conservation, I allow the free use of up to 10 of my images for non-commercial and educational use, following the Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported (CC BY-NC-ND 3.0) license. (I have added a link to this license in February, 2011, but it does not change any previous useage rights previously given here.)

Contacting Contributors

Below is a list of the names of digital media contributors (in alphabetical order by last name.) Clicking on a name link opens your default mail program and inserts an email address. If you want to use another mail program, right-click or control-click on the name and copy the address then paste it. If there is no link, you can check with me to see if the contributor does not want to be contacted, or if I just did not make a link.

By request of some contributors, as an attempt to prevent the collection of email addresses from this list by email harvesting spammers, since June 2008 I have added a # symbol before each email address. You need to remove this # symbol when you send email to a particular email address.

(On my Mac using Safari, when I Control Click and select Copy Email Address, the # changes to %23 which I then delete. Your system may do the same or similar when you Right Click. Whatever symbol it puts at the beginning of the address should be removed.)

I realize that this makes it hard if not impossible to use these email links on a cell phone. You will have to write down the email address then type it into your mail program unless you can find a way to remove the leading symbol.

I apologize for the inconvenience and I don't know how well this works, but it's the only solution I have come up with so far.
If anyone on this list thinks they are getting spammed because their email address is listed here - let me know if you want me to remove or change it, and I will.
