This is a fantasy/musical/comedy, based on a children's book, made with a combination of animation and live action.
Lyle is a crocodile who ives in New York City and deals with a lot of anti-crocodile sentiments, which is understandable. Who wants a giant killer reptile living in their building? However, Lyle is not a typical crocodile, because he can sing and understand the English language. When entertainer-musician Hector P. Valenti (Javier Bardem) finds baby Lyle singing in a curio store cage, he brings him home to try to make money off of his talent. Lyle's stage fright puts an end to Hector's dreams, and eventually the full-grown Lyle ends up with a new family and befriends their boy Josh (Winslow Fegley) who has a few adventures with Lyle, and takes him for a ride on a motorcycle. Hector returns and tries once again to make Lyle do an act on stage with him.
Lyle is drawn to look more like an alligator
than a crocodile, but the movie is made for children, not herpetologists, so they won't notice.
